It Only Took a Month

October 4, 2016

I’ve come a long way from the days when I used to take a week off for an expansion launch so I could level and gear in time to raid. Note that I am not saying there is anything wrong with that, it’s just not what I want to do in the game anymore. Sort of a ‘been there, done that’ scenario. I did, however, decide it was about time I buckle down on one character and get to max level. So the alts (or maybe I should say the OTHER alts) got set aside temporarily while I finished things up with Oranis. He did the loremaster achievements in Azsuna, Stormheim, and Val’sharah. He did all of the class and order hall quests as they came up, and also did one dungeon for a pillar which, naturally, ends up being the dungeon he has to do again later for the class hall campaign. I guess that’s what I get for wanting to just do things as they appear instead of looking them up ahead of time. Anyway, he dinged 110 and hit friendly with the Highmountain all at the same time, completing his rep requirements in the leveling zones and ready to go straight to Suramar.

Suramar is as gorgeous as everyone has been saying. I died a few times, sure, I mean, I’m a fresh 110. Almost all of them were, like, if I’d had just one more pyroblast proc or one more charge on blink the thing would be dead instead of me. No big deal, a couple of pieces of gear (or fewer times fat-fingering ice block so that it’s on CD when I actually need it ahem) and that will improve, it’s all good. I was a bit distressed that the quests were only worth like 25 rep each, so getting to friendly did take longer than I expected. But I had so much to do it didn’t really matter. I wasn’t all that keen on the charging the ley line puzzle, but I enjoyed flitting around Oculeth’s workshop. And the portal system is going to be very useful. I only have two, well three, locations and I already love it. Then again, I’m a mage, of course I love portals.

World quests are … ok. I did a few. I didn’t have a lot of time though by the time I got them unlocked, so that’s probably a project for … well, maybe tonight. When does the event start again? I also got started on the archaeology quest, did the next order hall quest, and got my 5th champion. Fortunately, being dual gathering, I don’t have any professions to worry about. Honestly, with the way professions are gated this time, I’m considering dropping one of Kerick’s crafting profs and picking up the gathering prof that goes with the one I keep. I could do it because Karius and he both have alchemy and I don’t necessarily need two, especially since I’m not raiding. But we’ll see, I might not bother and just say ‘screw professions’ and not do anything with it. My priority for now will just be getting people leveled and prepped for world quests/class hall campaigns.

110? Not yet…

but I’m getting there! I took a break to get Kerick into his order hall, but otherwise I worked on Oranis all weekend.

Kerick … well, he has to have Highlord, I mean really, Tirion would be so disappointed in him if he let him down. Ret is fine, I mean, it works and stuff dies and I don’t but … it’s not fun. I took Arelin out last night for awhile because I’d seen someone say you get Koltira as a bodyguard so I figured yeah ok, let’s DK! Unholy, same as ret … it works, stuff dies, heck I can pull more things with that than I have with any other character so far. But it just doesn’t grab me. Looks like warrior is going to win again as the most fun plate wearer to run around on … too bad the whole valarjar thing doesn’t do it for me. There really isn’t a follower that excites me. Then again, they’ve pretty much killed off all of the other warrior champions that I can think of. No more Varian, no more Hellscreams … ok there’s probably a Bronzebeard, and maybe Shandris Feathermoon? Genn Greymane? Dang, are there any left in the Horde besides Baine? Anyway …

One nice thing about all of the character hopping is that I haven’t run out of rested xp yet. Oranis hit 108 last night and still has almost a full level worth of rested bonus. He’s been to every zone and gotten friendly with everyone except the Highmountain but he only needs a quest or two to finish them. (I suppose he should give Moozy back at some point eh?) He’s gotten the pillars in both Azsuna and Val’sharah as well as completing the loremaster achievements in both. He even hung out with Jarod, who is one of my favourite characters ever.

The end of Val’sharah is both the most beautiful and saddest thing ever. I mean really, I cried for Tirion because it’s Tirion, but I sobbed for Ysera. It was just so well done.

Have I mentioned how much I love the scaling zones and the ability to go wherever you want? Oranis got his second class hall upgrade and now has portals in his class hall to each zone, making it easier than ever to zone hop across the world. He needs just two more recipes to move along with whatever Nomi is going to have him do. I already know where to get a couple, he just has to get his butt out there and quest for them. Like, what? We have to go set more stuff on fire? Oh darn.😉

Week’s End Roundup

September 16, 2016

I have four characters now that have at least made it to 101 to get their order hall missions going. I should probably get more of them going, but a couple of them have run out of resources so I’ve gone back and quested on them again to build up some more. I’m really in no hurry.

So I went back on Oranis to do a little bit more work in Azsuna. The quests at Nar’thalas Academy were especially fun. The combat practice from the tomes was my favorite.

He finished the questline for the pillar and, like Juna, got an instant dungeon queue. Um … ok then! I didn’t like Eye of Azshara near as much as Neltharion’s Lair though. Maybe it was just the difference in class. I felt like I spent more time running around avoiding stuff in this dungeon than I did in the other one. That’s always less of an issue on the hunter. The run was smooth though.

He’s out of resources again so out he’ll come tonight, whether to finish the questlines I didn’t do in Azsuna or to move somewhere, I’m not sure.

Hunahuna also ran out of resources, so I did a little more in Val’sharah. So far I’m liking the zone but I’m not sure I like boomkin. She may end up getting set aside in favour of the kitty.

Ysera’s new model looks great! For awhile at least.

The other character who got his missions going is Kroy. He bounced around some because of profession quests, starting in Azsuna to find Fargo Flintlock, then moving to Highmountain to find the mining trainer, which was an adventure in itself. I had no idea how to get up on the mountain. I eventually found my way up the wrong side, which was ok because I got to see this wonderful view.

And I also found this little family just chilling out on the mountainside.

Eventually I ran into an area that I thought might take me where I wanted to go, but I had to get past a max level boss creature. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try stealthing by him, even though I knew it was probably futile. On the plus side, as a ghost I was free to roam the peak and figure out how to get where I wanted to go. THAT was easier than figuring out how to get back to my body, so once I knew how to get to my quest objective I took a spirit rez and got there safely. Once I had the flight path there, I didn’t need to know how to ride there. At least until the next character with mining needs to go there … hmmm.

Adventuring in Azsuna

September 12, 2016

Now that the weapons are mostly collected, it was time to head out into the world. Oranis, former bank alt, got the nod to be the first one out of the gates. (Actually, Kerick beat him to it, but only did the very first questline so there wasn’t much to report on.)

Harpy’s Nest posted last week about how the Dalaran flightmaster, Aludane Whitecloud, has you pay him to send you out on one of your own mounts. It’s kind of weird but also really cool at the same time. I never would have realized that the Warforged Nightmare leaves a trail of red if he hadn’t, because I never see my mounts from the side while in flight.

Fire is a lot of fun. Not that that is anything new, I’ve always found it enjoyable. But it’s a good bit more durable than it used to be. Aside from Ice Barrier now being baseline for all specs, one of the early traits on the artifact tree heals you when you blink. Coupled with the shimmer talent which gives blink two charges, you can easily get out of harm’s way AND heal up, all without much interruption in your damage.

So he had a good time running around setting everything on fire of the correct hue, not that ghastly green fel stuff. Although he did pretend to be a warlock for a little while when Tehd sent him to find his runaway imp.

Even better, he got to 101 and unlocked the missions in his order hall, so I was able to get the Legion companion app up and running. Now I can work on other characters and still keep him busy … at least until he runs out of order hall resources, then it will be his turn to quest some more.
