Another Patch Day

October 14, 2014

So, it’s finally here. THE pre-patch. There’s a meeting tonight to figure out our raiding plans. I know that is foremost on many of my guildies’ minds. So, what is the top thought in my mind right now? Logging on to all of my characters to fill out as much of the toybox as I can. Yeah … I think perhaps my raiding has come to an end.

I downloaded Age of Conan this weekend because that’s what Lyss has been playing lately. I made a Cimmerian Conqueror because, duh … I always make something that can use heavy armor and big weapons. Lyss has asked repeatedly whether we will get an actual Conan post, and I did take screenshots but … I can’t find them. So, maybe later.

So then, how about some M&B? 😉

mb99

How’s that for action? All five factions in a line, each guy (other than poor Ordin-Naschokin of the Tsardom there in the lead) chasing another. Let’s see if I can identify the others … the Pole is clearly Jan III Sobieski. The Cossack is Popovich. I can’t see enough of the flag to identify the Swede. The Crimean is Yashlav-bey.

You know, it’s always going to be strange to me, playing another faction and having my beloved Cossacks as enemies. All those times I fought by their sides and then to turn around and have one of them chasing me down is just odd.

mb102

Yep, that’s Ivan Sirko tailing me. I’ve posted him before but I failed to wiki him at that time. This must be corrected because he’s important. He was Kosh Otaman of the Zaporozhian Host, the highest military ranking. This was in 1663 after the Khmelnytsky Uprising, though. Sirko, unlike most of his contemporaries, lived to be 70, and was around until 1680, so a lot of his important history is during the wars that resulted from the uprising.

As long as we’re on the Cossack subject again, we might as well get Lavrin Sinonos posted.

mb101

He only exists in the game. I like this shot because it also includes Popovich, Shumeiko, and Nosach.

Remember how I mentioned having Mirza Divey in my prison in Kezlev Fortress in my main game?

mb104

He’s still there. Maybe someday I should let him out, eh?

So Many Ivans

September 18, 2014

So, I haven’t had any luck trying to get shots of the Cossacks I am still missing. I did hang around with Shumeiko and Vygovsky but wasn’t lucky enough to get a shot of either one. I did grab this one, though, because it amused me.

Ivan, Ace, Ivan, and Ivan.

mb71

And that’s not even all of them, that’s just Vygovsky, Sirko, and Hmara. There’s also Bogun and Fedorenko. And of course, that’s not even counting the ones in the Muscovite Tsardom! These guys and their Ivans are just as bad as the Poles and their Jans (Kazimir, Skrzetuski, Zenowicz, Sobieski, and Zamojski).

Speaking of the Muscovite Tsardom, well, they are now history.

mb65

So instead of Cossacks, I give you a couple of Russians who joined our side. These are both from sieges because we have been busy taking all of the Swedes’ stuff.

mb66

Prince Andrei Khovansky (on the left in the screenshot) is the son of Ivan (lol! see?) Khovansky, who led an uprising in 1682 about which an opera, Khovanshchina, was written. As far as I can tell, Andrey only appears in the opera, because every single reference I could find to him is in conjunction with some performance.

mb68

Warlord Vasiliy Buturlin served as the Muscovite envoy in the signing of the Treaty of Pereyaslav in 1654. As far as I can tell, he has no relatives named Ivan.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

September 4, 2014

The landscape on the east end of the map has changed a bit, with the Swedes taking back the fortresses we gained from them, as well as taking Minsk and that one that starts with D next to Lviv that I never remember the name of. I think it’s Dubensk. Anyway … they recently made peace with us (with no intervention on my part) so now we can focus on the Khan. We’ve got them down to just three fortresses: Perekop, Kafa, and their capital at Bakhchisaray. Oh wait … make that four, they also still have Kalanchak. I myself am currently holding Kezlev and have successfully fended off two sieges there. I am determined to hang onto it, as it is tucked into a corner behind Perekop, right next to Bakhchisaray … perfectly situated to run interference and keep them disorganized.

I am coming for you, Baryn-bet!

mb25

Oh hey, I think that’s Ivan Sirko on the left there. I haven’t talked about him yet. I love fighting with him because his fighting style is similar to mine, with a cavalry lance and a speedy courser. Turn around Ivan, let’s see your face buddy.

mb26

And I’m coming for you too, Baesid-khan.

mb27

That one must have been a huge battle, looking at the flags over everyone’s heads. I see the banners of Gomon, Nosach, Sirko, and either Popovich or Pushkarenko, theirs are so similar I’m not sure which one it is.

Didn’t I already post another one that started with B, too? Yeah, Bukryn-bey. I can never remember which one of these guys is which. I know, I know … I need to work on that.

What’s that? What does this have to do with football? Oh yeah … last night was my fantasy draft! We always draft the night before the season opens. I even got a bit of a bonus this year, as Bills linebacker Brandon Spikes was in my office on Tuesday!

Pretty cool.

As for my team … well, I’m crossing my fingers. I got Colin Kaepernick as my QB, DeMarco Murray and Montee Ball as my starting RBs, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Cordarrelle Patterson for WRs, Kyle Rudolph at TE, Adam Vinatieri kicking, and the Cards D, with the Lions D playing the Jets on the Cards’ week 4 bye. The only problem here is … I can only play four of the five RBs/WRs. Granted, it’s a good problem to have, but it’s still annoying knowing I can’t put everyone on the roster at once and have to actually think about it because inevitably, the dude I bench is gonna have a great game and piss me off.

I’m pretty excited because with my new setup, I can watch tonight’s game on my big tv AND beat up Tartars all at the same time. 😀

I Hate Summer

August 8, 2014

Blargh. Work is so busy and I want to post. Leave me alone, phone! Ok, I’ll make this short.

Last night I took Bar Fortress from the Poles. I figured since the not asking thing worked for Minsk it would work again. I patrol around the fortress for awhile and then Colonel Matviy Gladkiy’s flag appears over it. Hmmm. Ok. The Poles come and take it. (I leave and let them. It’s not mine, I’m not fighting 600 of them to defend it by myself!) Once they’re gone I take it back and again, don’t ask for it. And again, it goes to Gladkiy. I guess since Gladkiy owned it for a long time before they came and took it, he’s got rights to it. So maybe if I can get Minsk back, then it will be mine since it was before. Oh well. At least I got more siege practice in, and when I took it back the second time I also freed my favorite buddy Les’ Gritsenko and Colonel Ivan Sirko, who were being held in the prison there.

One other really cool thing happened. I was hanging out with Colonel Ivan Bogun and we ran into Skrzetuski. When he defeated me a few nights ago, he took some things from my inventory, including some of my books and my backup horse Teddy. When we defeated him, I got all my stuff back, including Teddy! I was very happy, especially since I had been unable to find another heavy thoroughbred with the same stats. Instead, I bought a lame troop horse on the cheap. So now I have a healthy troop horse that I don’t need. I guess I’ll just increase one of my followers’ riding skill enough that they can ride him, because I’d feel bad selling him back and taking a loss on him without him ever even being ridden.

I really need to get a fortress soon. Now that my renown is higher, my army size has increased to 140+, and the types of campaigns I am going on are tough without the more expensive soldiers from the mercenary camps. My funds are dwindling.

Oh, and since I promised something about WoW this week, here .. have a screenshot of Lyss and Kash hearthing away from me at the end of our alt raid on Saturday night. Lyss and Slice both came along! It was really awesome to get to raid with them again. 🙂
