Catching Up

August 1, 2013

So …. yeah. I’m still here.

I’ve been playing some Card Hunter, as I stated in my last post.

I’ve also been messing around in Neverwinter still. My rogue, Lorne Bloodspike, finally got that Heavy Inferno Nightmare to drop from a lockbox.

Unfortunately, once he hit level 60 and finished all of the questing zones, well … he has nothing to do. The max level zone of Gauntlgrym requires being in a guild to even travel there. I know, I know … what am I doing playing an MMO if I’m not participating in the multi-player aspect of it? But I really just want to mess around on my own. So I’m not sure what I’m doing there now. Although there is a new patch coming soon, so maybe it will bring me some new things.

In WoW, I am raiding with SR two nights a week, although we’ll see what happens when Final Fantasy comes out. For now though, we’re … 9 of 12 I believe? Not too bad, really. On Saturday nights I’m doing LFR on the Alliance side with Ana and others from the old Crits gang. It’s honestly been a lot of fun so far, which sounds funny coming from me, because I’ve made it no secret that I don’t like doing LFR. But with several people you know grouped, it’s actually pretty cool. Outside of that, I’m just working on my pet collection.

That’s it. I got nothing else to say right now. But it’s more than Lyss has posted. 😉

Love My Steed

July 1, 2013

So, my rental horses finally got used up and I had to either buy one or hoof it. So I smacked down the 500 Zen for the Calimshain horse that I really wanted. This equates to 5 real life dollars, which I figure is acceptable considering the WoW store ones are so much more, and this is going to be his sole mount (unless one of those lockboxes coughs one up.) Plus, his leather armor is totally awesome.

I love the look on his face there, he’s like ‘what are you looking at?’

He’s larger than I was expecting. I thought he’d be the same as the regular 5g ones, but he’s a heavy horse, taller than the typical riding horses, with big ole hooves and cow hocks.

He also does this little dancing in place dressage move when we stand idle too long. It’s pretty cool.

I did finally die at level 35, and again at level 39. Bleh. But still … I’d say things are going pretty well! I did delete Wega and make a Guardian Fighter, who I played for like … 4 levels then left him in town because I figure I need to finish getting Lorne leveled up before I go goofing around on another. But I think I will like it. Where Wega’s shift ability needed me to hold down a direction key for her to sprint away from bad, this guy just holds shift and he stands in place, puts his shield up and blocks whatever big attack is coming. I love it.

Wega Who?

June 24, 2013

Yeah so … I needed to make a character on a different shard so that Tome could pass her extra skeletal dog on to me. Rather than just recreating Wega, I made something different … a Tiefling rogue. Yes, I know … rogue is so NOT my style usually. I mean, there’s a longstanding joke in WoW about how my rogues all end up as bank alts. But I’d heard they were fun in Neverwinter so I gave it a try.

Meet Lorne Bloodspike.

Rogue turned out to be fun and then some. Even before getting stealth at level 10, I was destroying stuff and having a good time doing it. I have an ability that stuns, a ‘finishing’ move that isn’t really a finisher because it doesn’t require any combo points or nonsense like that, throwing knives, and once I’ve built up enough action points, a blade flurry type thing. There’s also one that I learned later in the tree that is similar to shadowstep, which I use as my opener.

So anyway, I decided I liked the rogue enough to keep him, and tracked down Tome, who mailed me this little beauty. I named her Ancient, isn’t she awesome? She’s not just for looks either, she fights with me! Sort of like the companions in SW:TOR.

So the two of us set off for adventure together. We hit level 10 and got stealth and got to start on professions. These work sort of like in TOR, except they are separate from your companions. We tried out a quest from the Foundry. We got to 16 and … got to pick out a free companion from the ones that are available for a couple of gold at the vendor. I chose the man-at-arms because .. well duh. I get to run around with my own tank? He’s kinda cute too, he looks like Riker from ST:TNG. Hmm maybe I should rename him.

Somewhere along the line one of the Nightmare Lockboxes dropped that Tome had mentioned. I watched for hours as the system messages flashed across the screen … “so-and-so has received a Heavy Nightmare Inferno” … which is a mount that drops from them and looks sort of like a warlock’s Felsteed. I broke down and charged $20 worth of Zen so I could buy some keys. But … mounts and pets could come in it!

Speaking of which, at 20 I got the ability to ride.

This one is just a rental. You get three free tokens for rentals. Each rental lasts for 5 hours of in-game time. I figure I’ll use those up first and by the time they are gone, I will have the 2g+ to purchase a regular one. I have my eye on a pretty little Waterdeep mare. There’s also one for 500 Zen that I like.

You know, I just realized … Lorne got to 23 and has not died. The closest he came was last night, when my mouse battery died partway through the last boss battle of the night, and I had to rely on my encounter abilities, stealth, and the ability to roll out of harm’s way. Wega died several times on her way to level 9. She also had an ability, sprint, that could get her out of trouble, but it required holding shift + a direction key, which with my small hands I found to be very awkward. Lorne just has to double tap a direction and he’s gone, poof! Stealth is on tab. It’s funny how a class that I can’t quite get in one game, I find to be elegant and explosive and exciting in another, even though many of the abilities are similar.

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME

Look what you made me do!

Yeah, so, it took me a few nights to remember that I wanted to download Neverwinter, but I finally did and checked it out last night. I rolled a half-orc Great Weapons Fighter … basically a warrior, with a big 2 hander and heavy armor. I know you are all so surprised. I got almost to level 7. So far it is a lot of fun.

Now if I can just figure out how to zoom in with the camera. I had to adjust (again) to the WASD to move, mouse to attack the little targeting thing above your head style of combat. It is one of the things that drove me away from Skyrim. So far though, I’m doing alright with it. I think having clear objectives helps me.

Follow the shiny glowy line! Follow the shiny glowy line! Follow the, follow the, follow the, follow the …

Well you get the idea. It is nigh impossible to get lost. I like that. Oh sure, I leave the line to explore little corners that might have treasure. But it is there if I need it, to keep me headed the right way. In town, it was a godsend. Seriously, that place is a maze. And then there were portals opening up with droves of undead pouring from them. Pretty cool.

Ok I’ve rambled enough. Once I figure out this camera I can get a better shot of Wega for you.
