It Only Took a Month

October 4, 2016

I’ve come a long way from the days when I used to take a week off for an expansion launch so I could level and gear in time to raid. Note that I am not saying there is anything wrong with that, it’s just not what I want to do in the game anymore. Sort of a ‘been there, done that’ scenario. I did, however, decide it was about time I buckle down on one character and get to max level. So the alts (or maybe I should say the OTHER alts) got set aside temporarily while I finished things up with Oranis. He did the loremaster achievements in Azsuna, Stormheim, and Val’sharah. He did all of the class and order hall quests as they came up, and also did one dungeon for a pillar which, naturally, ends up being the dungeon he has to do again later for the class hall campaign. I guess that’s what I get for wanting to just do things as they appear instead of looking them up ahead of time. Anyway, he dinged 110 and hit friendly with the Highmountain all at the same time, completing his rep requirements in the leveling zones and ready to go straight to Suramar.

Suramar is as gorgeous as everyone has been saying. I died a few times, sure, I mean, I’m a fresh 110. Almost all of them were, like, if I’d had just one more pyroblast proc or one more charge on blink the thing would be dead instead of me. No big deal, a couple of pieces of gear (or fewer times fat-fingering ice block so that it’s on CD when I actually need it ahem) and that will improve, it’s all good. I was a bit distressed that the quests were only worth like 25 rep each, so getting to friendly did take longer than I expected. But I had so much to do it didn’t really matter. I wasn’t all that keen on the charging the ley line puzzle, but I enjoyed flitting around Oculeth’s workshop. And the portal system is going to be very useful. I only have two, well three, locations and I already love it. Then again, I’m a mage, of course I love portals.

World quests are … ok. I did a few. I didn’t have a lot of time though by the time I got them unlocked, so that’s probably a project for … well, maybe tonight. When does the event start again? I also got started on the archaeology quest, did the next order hall quest, and got my 5th champion. Fortunately, being dual gathering, I don’t have any professions to worry about. Honestly, with the way professions are gated this time, I’m considering dropping one of Kerick’s crafting profs and picking up the gathering prof that goes with the one I keep. I could do it because Karius and he both have alchemy and I don’t necessarily need two, especially since I’m not raiding. But we’ll see, I might not bother and just say ‘screw professions’ and not do anything with it. My priority for now will just be getting people leveled and prepped for world quests/class hall campaigns.

June 14, 2016

This has been a good month for me so far in WoW.  On June 1 the Northrend Timewalking event came up again, and I finally had enough tokens to purchase the horse I had been wanting, the Ironbound Wraithcharger.

Then of course, the movie came out last week. I didn’t go the first two nights … I’m weird and prefer going on Saturday mornings when it’s light outside and the crowds are smaller. The only option on Saturday morning was 3D, and I had reservations about that, but I went anyway and I have to say, I think it was even better in 3D. I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome the movie was. Granted, there were a couple of things that, being interested in the lore and having read the books, I found to be … changed a little more than I would have liked. But I also understand that those changes made it a better movie, and I’m ok with that. I might even go see it again, and will almost certainly be getting the DVD later on.

One other nice result from the excitement of seeing the movie is that I feel like playing again, even daydreaming at work about which character I am going to level when I get home. It’s been months since I’ve had that feeling and it’s good to want to play again. I even finished my 9th class this weekend.

So Adryen Monk joins the other eight and now all I have left are Druid and Priest. The Druid will probably be my Tauren lady because she is 92 and nearly ready for Gorgrond. My troll is still 89 and so … I don’t know. The priest will probably be my human, even though he is also 89, because then I will have 4 max level characters on each of my three main servers. (I already have 2 DKs at 100 because … well, because I wanted to!) One of each other class will be enough. Van is certainly worthy of carrying Ashbringer, even though I would have loved for Kerick to be the one. I sent Kerick to get a garrison but I just … I can’t play him. I can’t make him look good and the new humans just aren’t him no matter what I do at the barbershop.

Oh yeah, I’m also gonna need a gnome hunter and a demon hunter or two, ya? Hmm … oh well. Gotta finish these last two classes, first.😉

April 11, 2016

With the Faire around last week, I figured it would be a good idea to get some more leveling done.  Saturday afternoon I finished up with Madorsa.

That makes 8 classes to level 100. Only druid, monk, and priest to go.

Oh. Yeah. You’re probably wondering how I skipped from 6 to 8, eh? Yeah, I boosted Kriann, the dwarf shaman, with the Legion pre-order. I didn’t document it because, well, it’s a boost. I didn’t level her. Well, I did, to 68, but not the rest of the way. So, she counts, but she doesn’t, ya know?

In the course of her adventures in Nagrand, Madorsa ran across Luk’hok, a rare elite elekk that drops a mount, the Mottled Meadowstomper. Now, he’s level 100 and she, at the time, is 98. Yes, I know, warlock OP etc etc but I didn’t even bother. I mean really, I have 7 other classes at max level right? Ok, 4 if we’re only talking about the server group that she is on, but still … I trotted Van out there instead.

I am totally out of practice with him, but I remembered enough to kill the thing without getting myself killed. So, new and totally unexpected mount!

Aside from all that, I spent yesterday working on my seasonal character in D3 since the season ends … crap, Friday. I don’t think I will be completing chapter 4. First off, in order to even get into my set dungeon, I had to dink around with finding the crimson beta drivers for my ‘legacy’ AMD video card so that the game won’t crash if I try to visit the Desolate Sands. Yeah. Next time I’m buying Nvidia. I might be able to get to Greater Rift level 20 and kill Siegebreaker Assault Beast on T4 by then, but I have to do some research on the set dungeon. That might be too much. Still, for a casual player, I’m happy just to have completed my set. I just need the pants still to have all 7 pieces.

Remind me next season to start running rifts at 60 or so, so that I have a collection of greater shards ready for me when I hit 70. I’m behind now because I have to run 2 or 3 neph rifts to get a shard in between each greater rift. Gah.

Class 6 and Season 5

February 8, 2016

Yeah, I know, you thought the blog was dead, didn’t you? Well it mostly is,  but I figured I should at least post big things, traditions, ya know? Like Rainbow shots …

Yeah, that’s the ‘new’ wizard I made for season 5. I say ‘new’ in quotes because I used the new rebirth feature to restart my level 20-something wizard over. I think he’s twice that level now, somewhere in the 40s. I dunno, I haven’t played in a week. The Faire started yesterday so I did something else instead …

Yep, that’s Alestav the rogue finishing his leveling and getting my 6th class to level 100, joining Death Knight, Hunter, Mage, Paladin and Warrior as my finished classes. So I only have 4 to go. Ok 5 really, but one of them is going to get the level 100 boost that comes with Legion. Probably my level 69 dwarf shaman, although I am also considering the worgen druid who is level 40-something. It wouldn’t take long to level her to 60 so she could get the professions. I’m going with one of those because I also have two professions to get to 600, leatherworking and inscription, which would be appropriate for either one of them. I also have a level 59 human rogue who would have been a nice choice had I not already had Ales almost leveled.
