Let Him Live!

May 26, 2011

Van’s raiding debut, night two.  SR’s first visit to Throne of the Winds. I tried to get a pic of me hanging out there on one of my prized ponies, but someone had to go and get in the way of the screenshot. *sigh* Oh well, at least he’s easy on the eyes … and even has on the right pants!

So, Conclave went about like I expected it to. It took three or four pulls but we were out of there in pretty short order, adding a new boss to the guild records and putting us at 10/12 for the normal tier. I had to do a lot more dodging of permafrost than usual … Arv bounced around a lot more than Rev does. I guess I should have told him that he really only has to move out of ice patches and can just eat the permafrost. Oh well.

We skipped back over to Nef for a pull or three, but then Zug had to leave. We had a guildy on that we could pull in, but he hadn’t raided yet this tier and wasn’t quite geared yet … so we postponed Nef and took him to BoT. Heck, Van hadn’t been to BoT yet either, so I was happy to get the kills recorded.

Now, those of you in Crits are familiar with the Let Log Die game (sometimes also referred to as See How Low Log’s Health Can Go but that’s too damn long most of the time). The healers let Log’s health bar flirt with death, while Log tries his darnedest to run me out of mana. (Not an easy task to make a holy pally go oom) Well, SR has their own game … Cause Cayle’s Death (or Sorak’s, or Nedden’s, or .. whatever toon he happens to be on at the moment.) If you win this game, someone in the group pays you 10g. For reals. Methods for achieving this include but are not limited to … misdirects, tricks, FD, ice block, turning mobs in his direction that have cleaves, shockwaves, etc. Being somewhat rebellious, I have been making it a priority to NOT let him die. It’s a real challenge … we don’t call him Cayle the Floor Tank for nothing. But normal old healing is boring, so this is how I make it interesting.

We’re on the second of the two drakonid mobs after Valiona & Theralion. Arv is turning the guy every which way trying to get Cayle in the cleave. I’m like ‘meh, it’s trash. I’ll have plenty of time to drink and regain mana once this mob dies.’ So I roll Divine Lights on him.  I win the game.

Now for the elementals. Plenty of opportunities for deaths here. Things are going along, stuff is dying, I’m sort of spacing out, when I hear Cayle on vent go ‘Damn, I’m dead’ … I look up and he’s got a sliver of life left.

/cast LoH

Then Slice’s voice comes on … ‘Ok who wasted a Lay on Hands on Cayle!’

I’m laughing my ass off but I key up and say ‘I have no idea what you are talking about’

The pull ends, I sit down to drink … and all of a sudden there’s a trade window open on my screen.

Score! That’s right, bitches! Cayle PAID ME for keeping him alive. You’re going to have to work harder than that to run up his repair bills now. Game on!

Van Meets Nef

May 25, 2011

So Van made his raiding debut last night. BUT … first things first. When I logged on, I brought up the LFD as I always do to see if Call to Arms is up for healers. Woot! It is! So I queue … Throne of Tides. Absolutely pro tauradin with like 175k health with kings. The dps DK hadn’t done the instance before, but did a good job of staying out of bad and interrupting. The hunter trapped. The lock gave me DI. We skipped the faceless ones hallway and Erunak, but that’s ok. Quick, smooth, easy run. Maybe I should run solo more often instead of with SR. 😛  Anyway … my satchel contained 95 gold and a deviate hatchling, so I wasn’t disappointed. (The entire list of my satchel contents can be viewed from the link titled ‘Healer Call to Arms Loot’ on the sidebar)

After that, I popped into my lolret gear and did my dailies. Last day of Sen’jin, achievements and title earned, mount purchased.

Finally, it is raid time. It took a little prodding and some waiting on people who couldn’t make the exact starting time, but we were hell bent on having a raid happen this week … especially after the announcement of the nerfings the T11 content will be undergoing in the next patch. The tone for the evening was set when we were summoned to the BWD balcony and there is Zerlegen dancing in his pimp outfit. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any screenshots, but I know Lyssi did, so expect to see that later this week on her blog. (Now you’re stuck, woman, you have to post! bwahahah) Naturally, Arv had to upstage him.  There’s a reason we always say that Arv has the best toys … because it’s true! Ana … gaze on this pose of Arvash Awesomeness and tell me again how ugly the Horde is …

Alright … down to business. We pull the sentries before Omnitron. A few seconds in and Cayle is already ‘Salv me please’ …

‘Dang, you forgot to remind me to make that macro!’

So while we’re sitting down to our feast, I’m busy making my @Cayle macro. It got plenty of use throughout the night. I made one for Zug too, but never used it … I think Arv pretty much takes care of him. So I guess I get to be Cayle’s personal Salv slave. I’m beginning to see why he agreed to let me change roles. >.<  I must admit though, I get a little smile of satisfaction every time I cast it and see my addon send a whisper to confirm that it was successfully cast. At least I felt somewhat useful … I’m not entirely sure my numbers for the night were much to write home about, given the state of my gear.

Omnitron goes down pretty easily and drops my boots! The ones that Kerick held out for so long to get. Seriously, if something was going to drop for me, that was the best slot to get, because it was the one slot that was still iLevel 333. (Ack, I forgot to reforge those suckers before I logged off. Remind me to do that before raid! Mastery … YUCK). Magmaw, same thing.  Actually, we got the Parasite Evening achievement on him. Somewhere along the line Zarm comments about how much easier healing is now that they’re not carrying Sorak. It was probably aimed more at picking on Sorak than complimenting me, but I chose to take it as some of both anyway. Maloriak was pretty smooth, and then we went to Chimaeron.

Up to here, everything was more or less business as usual for me … I stood in the same places Kerick stands and healed pretty much the same assigned targets. Now we’re standing before Chim and Slice is passing out orders .. Van heal group 2. Waitwut?? I always heal the tanks. Joo be confusin me mon. But I’m the new one here, and I’m taking the place of a shaman. So I get a group. Cayle moves himself into my group after a couple of wipes. I’m like ‘what is this, a test to see if I’ll actually heal you?’ Ok, maybe it had more to do with my position being closer to where he was standing so he wouldn’t be out of range of his healer, but it’s more fun to make it a personal challenge. I was really getting the hang of the group healing role, so much so that I was in a zone and still healing when I looked up and the boss was at 17% and had already phased over a bit ago. Oops! (Ana, any time you want to actually try swapping assignments with me on Chim, you’re welcome to give it a go!) So … it was pretty ugly, actually … when he turned on me and I bubbled it was me and a hunter … or maybe both hunters. Not actually sure. I just know I bubble tanked him long enough for him to drop at the exact same time he dropped me.

Atramedes is a repeat of the first few  bosses … maybe we wiped once, actually, but he was downed in short order. So now we’re going to Nef. Now, we had planned on hitting Nef a week ago, so I had read the strat and watched videos. BUT … at that time, I was expecting to be tanking. So I’ll admit to being slightly intimidated here. I’d never pulled Nef on any toon yet. After a couple of pulls though, I’m whispering Arv … ‘dude, I am SO glad I’m not tanking this crap.’ I found a good place to stand to not be in Ony’s tail swipe or get in her electrocute … most of the time anyway. I sort of learned how to get on the pillars fast, although I need more practice at it. THE WORST part of the fight for me is when Nef chooses my pillar for his shadowbolt barrage. OMFG SO MUCH DAMAGE /cry

We got him to phase 3 a couple times and got some good learning in on it. Tonight the plan is to hit Conclave of Wind for the first time ever, and then go back to Nef. With this group, I doubt Conclave will take much time to learn.

Al’Akir, otoh, usually ends with this view … not that it’s a bad one but ….

Fail Weekend

May 23, 2011

Ok, actually, the weekend itself was pretty awesome. I just failed completely at screenshots. I have exactly one that was taken yesterday.

See? It’s not even a GOOD screenshot. In case you can’t tell, that is Juna finally capturing Skoll. She still needs Arcturis and Aotona and then I will call her Wrath collection complete and start leveling her again so she can start grabbing Cata pets.

Other new additions to my pet collections this weekend included Tiny Shale Spiders for Arelin, Karius, AND Vanicus, Black Panther Cubs for Kalyon and Van, as well as a Kirin Tor Familiar and a White Tickbird Hatchling for Van. Oh! Crap. REMIND ME to go to Sholazar and get a new egg!! Geez. See? Fail!

Van dropped mining yesterday and started leveling up alchemy. I sent Roz out a few times to pick herbs that he needed, and hit up some archaeological digs along the way. His first fossil project? The pet. Is this a sign that he needs to be seriously leveling it? Ha.

Saturday we hit up ZG. Zarm tossed me some purple BoE bracers to stuff in my bag to get my iLevel high enough. It was …. relatively painless. I mean sure, Venoxis is a pita, and it took a few tries but once we got past him it was smooth sailing through Mandokir and …whatever the archaeology boss is. Slice failed at the frogger boss though. And then we had some troubles with Zanzil. Apparently they have trouble with him a lot. Probably has something to do with their penchant for bringing along lots of melee. Anyway, I got a helm and we moved on to Jindo and … one shot him. Seriously. We freaking wiped several times on Zanzil, and one shot the chains boss. Really? W.T.F. lol. Only in SR ….

Yesterday we wanted to do ZA, but my ilevel was too low after giving Zarm’s purples back. So I queued with Slice and Sorak for a few regular heroics. Then later in the evening once we had a full group on, Slice tossed me some BoE gloves for the bag and away we went. (Blizz, please please please, can we have Amani Bear minipets PLZ?????????????) Anyway, Akil’zon goes down and …. yes. That’s right. You know what I’m going to say, don’t you. Kerick, in his lovely everything is 359 and purple except for his bracers, is sooo jealous right now. Van kills the damn boss ONCE and has purple bracers before he even sets foot in a raid. Sorak even hooked him up with the intellect enchant that takes maelstrom crystals! Damn spoiled elf. He also got a lovely ring, spirit and haste, no reforging necessary. Hell ya! The final boss, we got cat and dragonhawk forms …. ugh. Just …. ugh. We spent more time on that than on anything else in the instance. Eventually Sorak (who was there on his rogue) swapped out and brought his shaman to dps, and the extra damage did help. Finally we got him down. The quests gave me pants and shoulders, so now my iLevel is a legit 348.

Tonight we hope to get in a BH. Even if nothing drops, Van is ready to raid.

Kitties and Trolls

May 20, 2011

First up: some Alliance content so my friends in Crits will remember who I am and not feel abandoned.

The last patch brought with it a nice change to the old Winterspring Frostsaber grind. It is now 20 days of daily quests, very similar to the Venomhide Raptor questline the Horde have in Un’Goro. I never could bring myself to suffer through the old grind, but this …

Here we have Kerick and his cub turning in the final quest.

And Kerick with his new ride.

And of course, you know Karius had to get one too. He’s the one with over 80 mounts, after all. One of these days I should probably make a serious effort to get him to 100.

Ok, now on to the Horde news. Anyone recognize this troll that showed up in SR last night?

I wish I could have gotten a better screenshot, but you’ll have to take my word for it … the murloc helm that looks so stupid on a worgen? Looks TOTALLY BADASS on a troll, mon.

As far as Van’s gearing up session went, we started out in VP. The helm dropped in there. Yeah, it has no spirit but so what. At this point I’m replacing greens and 333 blues, so any 346 plate with intellect is probably going to be an upgrade.

That got me revered with Earthen Ring, so I ran out to Vashj’ir and bought the sweet plate chest (spirit and haste baby). While I was there I also purchased the cloak. I will replace it with another 346 when I can get one with spirit but for now .. the extra intellect is worth trading in the 333 for.

Next we swapped out a toon and got ToT … with three melee? You guys hate me, don’t you. We survived through it though, and I picked up the spirit trinket and the sexy Whitefin Axe for my dps needs.

THEN Adoe joined the guild, and of course, we got him right into the group. So we have Adoe, Arv’s shaman, and Cayle, with Zarm tanking on his warrior. We get HoO. I haven’t even been here on regular … not that it matters. I know the place. I know Cayle will tank a lot of floor. Adoe pulls out some ridiculous number like 21k dps on … whatever the Alpha/Omega dude is. Setesh drops the mace! Yes!! Kerick never did see it drop, he used the Blade of the Burning Sun until the troll dungeons came out. I also got a ring off Ammunae. Oh yeah, and pants off Rajh. They *kind of* suck compared to ones I could buy with JPs, because they have no gem slots. BUT, compared to greens, they are awesome.

We do some gemming and enchanting and decide to run just one more. We somehow convince Lyssi to join us, and she says she’s dropping if we get Stonecore. We got Stonecore. lol. I don’t think anyone even died though … not even Cayle. Well, maybe he did once. I don’t remember for sure. Ozruk dropped the belt.

At this point I am sitting at one green, one 316 blue, one 325 blue, and two 333 blues. The rest has all been upgraded to 346 blues (plus the Shield of Arvash Awesomeness). The green is the infamous Bracers of the Dark Pyramid. Kerick wore those to raid in while running GB and Deadmines over and over to get blue bracers.  The 316 blue is the non-heroic relic Captured Lightning. I should probably talk a scribe into making me one to get me by until I have 700 VP … although I’m more than halfway there already, and that will be my first purchase. The 325 blue was the nicely itemized gloves from the end of the Ramkahen questline … but I spent my JPs on 346 gloves to replace them. The 333s are shoulders and boots. Now, Kerick wore those boots a LONG time .. until Omnomnom dropped some. So I’m not worried about the boots. The shoulders … I need to look those up. I know there are better ones. Well, the ones he wants are in Throne of Tides, so … I guess I’ll be going back there.

Basically, he is as geared as Kerick was when he began raiding. So .. I’m calling him ready. He needs 2 points of iLevel to get into troll instances. Cayle has been chomping at the bit to get him in there (I guess he REALLY wants to dps raids instead of healing), so I’m pretty sure we’ll get in there tomorrow. By Tuesday, he will *definitely* be ready to raid.
